Your Fashion Earrings Could Be Toxic to Your Health

Did you know? Your fashion earrings could be toxic to your health.

In 2012, CBS News reported on a study done on the safety of costume jewelry. Researchers selected 97 pieces from fourteen well-known retailers in six different States.

They found over half the products tested had high levels of unsafe chemicals and metals. About 27% of them had over 300ppm of lead. Chromium and nickel, which often cause allergic reactions, were found in over 90% of the items. Cadmium, a toxic metal, was found in over 10% of the product samples.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 10% to 20% of the population is allergic to nickel, and 1% to 3% are allergic to cobalt and chromium. Nickel is one of the most common allergens in the United States. It’s found in things like hand-held devices—and also in fashion jewelry.

Symptoms of nickel allergy include skin rash or bumps, redness or changes in skin color, dry patches that resemble a burn, itching, and blisters.

Fashion jewelry is made with base metals, which include nickel. Other commonly used base metals include: copper, zinc, lead, and aluminum.

While I don’t react with a rash, I’ve learned through personal experience that wearing base metal earrings carries a price. A few hours after wearing them I start to experience headache, poor concentration, foggy thinking, and a slight burning sensation around my ears.

Metal sensitivity aside, there’s another issue at stake. My symptoms are those of electromagnetic field sensitivity!

A report from the Wellness Center, confirms what I suspect: heavy metal toxicity increases your risk of electromagnetic sensitivity. Increase the presence of these metals on the body, and the body reacts when it otherwise wouldn’t. Could it be that the body can’t tell whether the toxic metals are on it or in it?

When I remove the earrings and the source of the toxicity, the symptoms immediately start to go away.

Here are other symptoms of electromagnetic hypersensitivity. If you recognize these symptoms and also wear fashion jewelry, see if you sense a connection. The symptoms are: sleep disturbance, tiredness, depression, restlessness, irritability, forgetfulness, learning difficulties, frequent infections, blood pressure changes, limb and joint pains, numbness or tingling sensations, tinnitus, hearing loss, impaired balance, giddiness, and eye problems. You may also get a tingling or prickling sensation, extreme dryness in the eyes and back of throat, swelling in the nose, throat, ears, and sinuses without any infectious cause, jaw pains, aches and pains in muscles and joints, and heart palpitations.

I’ll be the first to admit that it’s fun to wear earrings. I love how they feel when they dangle against my neck. They also contribute to a complete “look” which helps define a person’s style and personality. This is one of the reasons I want to solve the earrings problem.
