The Spinel family of gemstones are the keepers of rhythms. Life is maintained and sustained by energies in motion. Red Spinel helps keep them in motion in the physical body; Pink Spinel in the emotional body.
Supporting Muscular Vitality
Red Spinel and Rose Quartz (or RoselliteTM) are the vitalizing gemstones for the muscular system. Physically, this system consists of skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, and cardiac muscle. Skeletal muscles are found in the limbs and are controllable. We can move them when we want to. Our internal organs are surrounded by smooth muscle, which we cannot feel nor move at will. For example, the smooth muscle surrounding the digestive tract is responsible for peristalsis. Cardiac muscle comprises the heart and rhythmically contracts to pump blood through the circulatory system.
Red Spinel energy has an affinity with each of these types of muscle.
Skeletal muscle does not move rhythmically unless we ask it to, which is when Red Spinel will have its greatest effect on the muscular system. Runners, walkers, and rowers can benefit from the energetic support of Red Spinel during sustained rhythmic movement.
Yet no matter how muscles are used, they always contract and relax. Red Spinel can expand your range of skeletal muscle contraction and relaxation if you work the muscles while wearing the gemstones.
Red Spinel supports the energetic function of expansion and contraction, and of opening and closing. In the respiratory system, expansion correlates with the inhale, and the opening and relaxation of the lungs; contraction correlates with the exhale. In the heart, opening and closing occur synchronously among the heart’s four chambers. As a valve opens, the associated chamber opens, relaxes, and expands to fill with blood; the valve then closes, the chamber contracts and expels the blood. In the muscular system, the muscles “open” as they relax; when muscles work, they contract.
Other examples of expansion and contraction can be found in the body, for example, in the cerebrospinal system, among the chakras, at a whole body level where the subtle bodies gently and rhythmically expand and contract, and also at the cellular level where mitochondria take part in a similar activity. Ideally, all the rhythms of the body should be in synchrony with each other, and Red Spinel energy encourages this.
Red Spinel, although a pure red, does not carry the red color ray. That color ray is carried by Ruby. Ruby’s red color nourishes the entire body and being–wherever the red ray is needed. The red color of Red Spinel focuses on muscles. Besides improving muscle function, it also helps the muscle cells to manage, organize, and store their supply of red color ray.
Because smooth, skeletal, and cardiac muscle are all vitalized by Red Spinel, this gemstone’s energy helps muscle cells work more efficiently and with better coordination—even within a single muscle. Red Spinel also helps individual muscles throughout the body work together as a unit.
Once muscles begin working together efficiently, flexibility and range of motion can improve. Red Spinel’s effect on smooth and cardiac muscle is to promote enhanced autonomic rhythm. This includes the potential for greater lung capacity, which is governed by muscle activity surrounding the thoracic cavity.
Another reason Red Spinel energies can improve muscle vitality is due to its affinity with cellular mitochondria, which we discuss later on this page.
Promotes Regular Rhythms in Target Tissue
Every living cell and tissue vibrates with life energy. This vibration among cells and tissues produces a rhythm. In some cases, the rhythm is obvious, such as that of the heart and lungs. Yet all organs and cells rely on their own inherent rhythms for proper function.
By tuning the inherent vibration of organs and cells, Red Spinel normalizes their rhythm, which then improves function.
Function can be inhibited when blockages prevent an organ or cell from being able to “breathe,” or, in other words, for its energy field to expand and contract, in response to its inherent blueprint vibrations. Red Spinel can open the blockages that inhibit coordinated, concurrent, autonomic, and synchronized movement.
Synchronizes Rhythms Throughout the Body
The body is a sum of systems that function based on synchronized rhythm. As the body ages or is overcome by disease, these rhythms can soften and wane, and, at worst, become out of step with each other or become frozen. The more well-known arrhythmias include heart arrhythmia or imbalanced circadian rhythms.
Lack of rhythm can also manifest as poor circulation and inadequate coordination or communication between organs that otherwise should work together, for example, when the heart and lungs are not supplying enough oxygen to the muscles.
Red Spinel energy encourages rhythm, not only at the organ and system levels, but also between the physical and subtle bodies. Red Spinel energy also encourages cooperation and a common rhythm among cells.
With Red Spinel, those rhythmic relationships that are already in harmony become more congruent. Their vibrations become more concurrent. Red Spinel synchs the waveform. Therefore, this gemstone doesn’t add to the system but rather synchronizes what is already there to support positive changes.
Circadian Rhythms, Mitochondria, and Heart Health
Circadian rhythms characterize the physical, mental, and behavioral changes that regularly occur about every twenty-four hours. They include patterns of sleeping, eating, core body temperature, brain wave activity, heart rate, hormone production, cell regeneration, and other biological activities. Disturbances in the circadian rhythm can lead to health problems including insomnia, fatigue, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, auto-immunity, and inflammation.
Circadian rhythms are physical evidence of the rhythmic energetic flows that sustain and maintain life. These flows exist at all levels of manifestation, from the atoms and molecules, to the emotions, memory, and mind. Gemstone Therapy techniques are particularly effective for evaluating and correcting these flows, and wearing the Rhythm necklace is fundamentally supportive.
Circadian rhythms have also been shown to affect the cells’ mitochondria. Specifically, researchers found oscillations in mitochondrial respiration, protein abundance, and enzymes that process different nutrients. Mitochondria may be best known as the “powerhouse of the cell” in that they produce the energy our body needs to function. Mitochondria have many other functions as well. Among other things, they maintain calcium levels, build hormones and certain parts of the blood, detoxify ammonia, and play a role in the process of apoptosis or programmed cell death.
Mitochondria are of particular significance to heart health. For one, the heart relies on mitochondria to provide the energy needed to pump blood. The heart is also one of the most frequently affected organs in mitochondrial disorders.
We believe Red Spinel and the Rhythm necklace it comprises to serve as energetic support for healthy mitochondria, especially those in the heart. Red Spinel is a very warming gemstone, and mitochondria have shown to be receptive of infrared heat. It is possible that the red color of this gemstone strengthens its infrared emissions. Red Spinel’s activating properties may stimulate mitochondria and the opening of blocked flows between the physical and emotional counterparts of the cells. This may release the unwanted energies that inhibit optimal mitochondrial function.
Why Mitochondria Need Support
Mitochondrial Disorder (MID) affects nearly 1 in 4,000 people. Symptoms include poor growth, loss of muscle coordination, muscle weakness and pain, seizures, vision and/or hearing loss, gastrointestinal issues, learning disabilities, and organ failure.
When Mitochondria don’t function as they should, they are unable to produce energy for the cell. This can lead to cell injury and even death. If the problem spreads throughout the body, entire systems can begin to fail, severely compromising a person’s quality of life. Mitochondria diseases appear to cause the most damage to cells of the brain, heart, liver, skeletal muscles, kidney, lungs, and endocrine glands.
Symptoms can include loss of motor control, muscle weakness and pain, gastro-intestinal disorders, swallowing difficulties, poor growth, heart disease, liver disease, diabetes, respiratory complications, seizures, visual/hearing problems, developmental delays, and susceptibility to infection.
Keeping your mitochondria healthy and happy should be a key part of a health maintenance program.
