Play of color is an optical phenomenon unique to Opal and Mother Opal. It occurs when light enters the gem, interacts with its layers of silica molecules, and then exits the stone in a flash of spectral colors.

The Opal portion of the Mother Opal gemstone can have a play of color that includes blues, greens, yellows, and, more rarely, red. A strong play of color represents a higher therapeutic quality and is designated 5A. However, quality is also determined by the size of the Opal within the matrix and its depth.

To maximize play of color, our cutter must carefully examine the rough material to identify the location, orientation, and pattern of its play-of-color features.

How to Work with Mother Opal

A Mother Opal necklace can support you whether you are wearing it or keeping it close by.

The gems in this necklace have an affinity with your causal body, the layer of your aura that incorporates your physical body, emotions, and memory. It extends anywhere from 18’’ to 30’’ from your body.

While wearing the gems is best, as long as they’re kept within this distance, you can receive their healing energies.

One simple way to work with Mother Opal without wearing it is to think about the issues you want to resolve and then put the necklace under your pillow or on your nightstand before bed. Pay attention to what happens in your dreams, as it will relate to those issues.
